About NAMI

NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. NAMI advocates for access to services, treatment, supports and research and is steadfast in its commitment to raising awareness and building a community of hope for all of those in need.

From its inception in 1979, NAMI has been dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by mental illness. Financial contributions allow NAMI to offer an array of programs, initiatives and activities in support of the NAMI mission.

What NAMI Wyoming Does

NAMI Wyoming’s mission is to be a force for change in the lives of those affected by mental illness. To this end, we provide education, support and advocacy to individuals living with mental illness and their families. About NAMI Wyoming: Support, Education and Advocacy NAMI Wyoming is a grassroots organization composed of nine local affiliates and more than 300 members across Wyoming. NAMI Wyoming members are individuals living with a mental illness, their family members and other allies, such as health care professionals. NAMI is dedicated to improving the quality of life for individuals living with mental illness and their families through education, support and advocacy. NAMI Wyoming started in 1985 by a group of parents discouraged by the lack of services available to their mentally ill children. Over the last 25 years, NAMI Wyoming has grown to become the largest organization representing adults with severe mental illnesses and their families in the State of Wyoming.

Our Mission

NAMI Wyoming’s mission is to be a force for change in the lives of all those affected by mental illness. Vision The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Wyoming is the State’s primary organization for information about relevant issues, advancements and progress in the field of mental illness and the leader for positive change in the attitudes of the general public, public officials and the media. NAMI WY empowers local affiliates and collaborates with other mental health organizations to form a powerful grassroots advocacy network, able to mobilize quickly to respond to state/local policy issues surrounding mental illness. NAMI Wyoming strives to ensure the availability and accessibility of the highest quality services and research ultimately leading to a better quality of life for people affected by mental illness. Fundamentally, NAMI WY eliminates barriers and confronts prejudices helping people recognize mental illness is a challenge like any other illness
